JOB DESCRIPTION

POSITION TITLE: ECOLE Coordinator

POSITION SUMMARY:

The ECOLE Coordinator is a student passionate about bringing positive change to the University, with regards to its commitments towards sustainability. The ECOLE Coordinator will work with multiple University academic and non-academic departments, such as SSMU, MOOS, and SHHS, to create ECOLE. Whoever is willing to embrace this challenge will have to be patient, resourceful, and creative. The reward of this position will be, in addition to its compensation, the legacy of creating a space that dramatically adds to the culture of sustainability on campus.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Outreach to faculty for academic support of the project and hopefully supervising an independent study associated with ECOLE
  • Presenting ECOLE to numerous student groups on campus
  • Development of the ECOLE student working group
  • Creating ECOLE excitement, publicity, and hype within the McGill community
  • Organizing key stakeholders
  • Other various logistics in preparation for a successful launch of the project in September 2014

QUALIFICATIONS NECESSARY

  • Good organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills
  • Demonstrated passion for and involvement with a range of sustainable initiatives
  • Comfort engaging with stakeholders at multiple levels of the university (students, faculty, staff, administration, Montreal community, alumni, etc.)
  • An understanding of sustainability rooted in holistic terms (social, economic, environmental)

 RECOMMENDED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Knowledge of current sustainability work at McGill
  • Previous knowledge and/or involvement with ECOLE
  • Experience with or knowledge of cooperative living
  • Research skills/experience
  • Experience with grant/funding applications and/or fee referenda
  • Ideas for governance structures and institutionalization of ECOLE
  • Ability to read, write, and speak in French and English
  • Understanding of administrative structures and policy of the university
  • An understanding and commitment to anti-oppressive principles

HOURS: The ECOLE Coordinator will work 7-15 hours per week for approximately 4 months, starting January 2014
